! Important Notice Regarding Foreign exchange in Seychelles.

We learn this week that foreign nationals visiting Seychelles are being advised that they are now obliged to pay for food and beverages consumed in any restaurant located outside a hotel, in foreign exchange.

Foreign nationals are also reminded that payment for the following services: car hire, boat charter, ferry or air transportation, fishing, diving and all excursions offered by local companies, board and lodging and all services provided by hotels and other accommodation establishments and entrance fees for reserves and marine parks, must also be paid in foreign exchange.

Foreign nationals are also advised that it is imperative that you retain your official receipts upon exchanging their foreign exchange with hotel cashiers or banks, without which they will be unable to re-exchange Seychelles rupees into foreign exchange.

Whilst most (if not all) overseas currencies are welcome in the Seychelles Islands, the Euro followed by Pounds Sterling and US Dollars are by far the most popular and most welcome forms of cash. All leading Credit Cards are welcome in most (if not all) establishments although you may get better rates pre buying goods and services before you leave your home country.
We would also remind visitors that exchanging foreign currency into local Seychelles rupees by any other means other than official exchange points will incur severe punishment totally incongruent with the normal happy interaction experienced by visitors in paradise. There is a Foreign Exchange Bureau at the airport and most (if not all) banks will oblige. Check opening times ?Ǩ have some Euro / GBP / USD cash on arrival if arriving at odd hours to enable you to purchase taxis etc.
